University of Maryland Medical Center
University of Maryland Medical Center is an academic teaching hospital in downtown Baltimore, Maryland. It provided emergency and inpatient care during Jacob Keller’s October 2024 hospitalization, treated Logan Weston after his March 2025 CCBC collapse, and received Ezra Cruz after his winter-2050 police pursuit and psychiatric crisis.

Overview
UMMC is the flagship hospital of the University of Maryland Medical System and is located at 22 S. Greene Street in Baltimore.
In October 2024, UMMC treated Logan in emergency-department Bay 3 after his glucose fell to 38 mg/dL during Jacob’s seizure. Logan responded to glucose treatment without cardiac involvement.
Jacob was admitted to PICU Room 4 after a sixteen-minute status-epilepticus seizure and the first of two cardiac arrests during his acute course. Dr. Sameera Patel led his acute neurological care; Dr. Jones removed his breathing tube after five days. The hospital documented cerebral edema, sepsis, concussion, severe malnutrition and dehydration, anemia, and healing injuries from chronic abuse. Jacob was discharged after two weeks to the Weston household with levetiracetam and Bactrim. The admission became one of the institutional points where his immediate medical safety and the legal and protective-services response to Robert Keller’s abuse converged.
In March 2025, UMMC received Logan after the CCBC presentation collapse. Emergency personnel measured his glucose at 48 mg/dL after he lost consciousness at the podium. Dr. Martinez and Nurse Garcia treated him in Bay 4 with intravenous glucose, fluids, monitoring, and ondansetron before admitting him to Room 423. The acute assessment also identified status migrainosus, severe dehydration, and significant ketones after prolonged fasting. Julia and Nathan stayed overnight, and Jacob visited the following day.
In early 2050, emergency medical personnel brought Ezra to UMMC after Officer Daniel Reyes de-escalated the armed response at the end of a police pursuit. Ezra arrived in profound nervous-system shutdown, panicked under the trauma team’s lights, touch, and equipment, and then suffered a cardiac arrest. The team performed CPR and shocked him twice before restoring a heartbeat.
Significance
UMMC’s role joins emergency medicine to the institutional consequences surrounding several family crises. Jacob’s hospitalization supported the abuse investigation and his removal from Robert’s household. Logan’s admission forced his family to confront an academic and medical pattern he had previously kept under control in public. Ezra’s trauma-bay treatment kept him alive after the physical collapse that followed his police encounter, while the arrest and body-camera footage drove a separate public argument over how psychiatric emergencies are policed.
